Description
Buxton Cemetery was established in 1788 as a subscription-based burial ground. The land was orginally owned by Roger Lyon, and there were 24 families who purchased shares when the cemetery was founded.
The cemetery is still in use, but most headstones are from the 1800's and early 1900's. Many early burials are marked by fieldstones. Some graves from the Old Katonah Burial Ground were moved here when that cemetery was closed to make way for the Croton Aqueduct.
